The Double

Horse on the Awatere valley road – 20th of December 2017.

The League of Clevedon Wheelmen are in the midst of planning a tour we’re calling ‘The double’. Comprising both Molesworth and Rainbow trails over a period of about a week in late November 2018.

Predominantly double track, it’s a ‘carry all’ with a few stops on route for provisions (or a soothing libation) that includes: Picton, Nelson, Hanmer and Blenheim.

It’s about 500 km in length, with an air gulping 8,000 m of total climb.

This is a ‘call up’ to any current or prospective Wheelmen interested in a little old timey adventuring. If you’re keen to join the posse, give us a holler! We’re going to use this page as our official’campfire’ for continuing confabulations.

Speaking from experience

Now Horse and I did the Molesworth Muster in late 2018, all the way from Picton to Hanmer over three days and nights. And although we’d prep’ed, there is nothing like getting to the trailhead and wearing your butt back into the saddle. So for a bit of additional motivation take a gander at: Picton to BlairichBlairich to Upcot saddleUpcott Saddle to Acheron and Acheron to Hanmer Springs.

A few useful links you may want to look at are the Rainbow cycle trail and the Molesworth cycle trail.

ENThe campaign
Below is a current overview of the proposed tour and trail. All nights are at campgrounds to avoid free camping and there are plenty of stops for provisions and ummm beers.
